Milcah is 'THE BABY WHISPERER". I swear. Milcah as a human is thoughtful, calm, sweet, funny, very creative and artsy, and gives my child and hers tactile learning experiences every moment they are together. She has tenderly looked after my son (now 2.5) since he was 4 months old and is an active parent-figure in his life. He looks forward to seeing her daily. She is conscious of his needs, engaging him in fun age-appropriate activities, and giving him healthy snacks. They just made the cutest butterfly out of his footprint; she even laminated it for us! I don't know if I have ever seen any caretaker, or mother for that matter, be able to engage any kid at any age.
But I will say she does something special with babies. My husband and I were looking after a friend's 7 mo the other day and he couldn't stop crying. 5 adults cooing and bouncing this little one and only when he got onto Milcah's shoulder was he at peace... Immediately. I am the best mother I can be because I have Milcah's support.
UPDATE: My son is now 8. Milcah is still an important part of their lives and our family story. When we moved to Sacramento to be closer to family right before my second child was born, she was the person I missed most in Oakland. After my daughter was born and I went through a tough time transitioning to two kids, she was the first person I called. Milcah always remembers the kids’ birthdays and is interested in how they have developed and what they get excited about.
I recently had the good fortune of visiting The Willow Tree and it is honestly the sweetest place. It is calm, inviting, safe, homey. All the sensory materials are thoughtfully curated. The childcare dream team that is Milcah and Lily fills me with joy for all the future families that get a chance to be a part of The Willow Tree. “We have so many wonderful things to say about Milcah it truly is hard to know where to start. She watched our son for four months (16-20 months) during a time of transition for us— and he thrived under her care. Milcah has the calmest, gentle and warm energy and she is certainly a “baby-whisperer.” She took such great care of our son and he adored her. She read to him, did arts and crafts projects, and made sure he had plenty of time outside and active. She was always responsive and helpful when we had questions. She had incredibly helpful advice around parenting challenges, which she offered when asked. We so miss seeing her every day. Finally, if you truly want to know what an amazing caretaker Milcah is, you need only meet her children. They are funny, kind and as lovely as she is.
